A History Of The Art Quilt
Dates: 6/16/2009 to 6/16/2009
Description: Robert Shaw, author of the definitive book The Art Quilt will trace the development of the artist-made quilt, exploring its roots in traditional quiltmaking and other textile and visual arts and then looking at the ground-breaking work of such innovators as Radka Donnell, Jean Ray Laury, Joan Lintault, Michael James, and Nancy Crow. Mr. Shaw contends that while academically trained artists have only recently adopted the quilt as their medium of choice, quilts are one of America's major art forms and the best quilts are as much a part of the story of artistic achievement in this country as any painting or sculpture.
